Dava Rabb, the owner of Ranch & Famous boutique, is fashion icon in the West. She has been dressing women in San Angelo for over 8 years, and her store is a go-to destination for those who want to look stylish and put together in a western way.
In this interview, Dava shares her insights on the western fashion industry, her passion for her business, and her inspiration on starting her own business. She also talks about the challenges of running a small business in a rural area, and how she has navigated the ever-changing landscape of western fashion. I’ve been blessed to have met her and become part of the Ranch & Famous family.
Now, whether you’re a fan of western fashion or just looking for some inspiration, this interview is a must-read.
Let’s start off by telling us a bit about yourself and Ranch & Famous.
Dava: “ I started Ranch and Famous on a whim. Wow, what a ride it has been. I never dreamed it would have grown like it has. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my husband, my family, the great customers who have become friends and all of my brand reps who help spread the word about Ranch and Famous. I come from a rodeo family. My grandfather and 2 uncles are both in the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. My dad and brother are well known team ropers in Texas. Both of my grandfathers and several of my uncles and cousins rope. Every single weekend growing up we were at a roping. I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
That’s amazing! I love how deep your roots are in the Western industry. Since you own a western boutique, what is your own personal definition of western fashion?
Dava: “I’m old school. Western fashion to me is wearing boots, jeans, a pretty top and a buckle that my dad or brother won in their rodeo careers.”
That sounds like the perfect outfit! What are some of your favorite western fashion trends?
Dava: “I love them all. Right now, I’m loving all the blazers, shorts and boots. Navajo pearls and turquoise jewelry will always have my heart.”
I couldn’t agree more. I love my Navajo pearls and turquoise jewelry. It is a staple piece for me. I also love the blazers and shorts too, I’ve noticed that’s more of my style now too. What are your thoughts on the current state of the western fashion market?
Dava: “I think western style is more popular than ever and you don’t have to have grown up a “country girl” to enjoy it or participate in this type of fashion. If it makes you happy, wear it!”
Exactly, that’s what I am always saying, western style is universal and can appeal to everyone. You can make your style western by adding simple accessories and it’s a beautiful thing!
Since you own your own business, what are your biggest challenges as a western boutique owner?
Dava: “ The biggest challenge right now is finding pieces that appeal to all ages.”
I agree. There are so many pieces that are flattering to younger generations, but not for the older ones. If you are young and in your 20’s those cropped fringe tops are super cute, whereas if you are in your 30’s you may not want to wear fringe cropped tops, you may want something more modest. I can see where the challenges are and what your facing.
What are your thoughts on the future of the western fashion industry?
Dava: “I can’t wait to see what the designers come up with next. It’s grown so much just in the 8 years I’ve had Ranch and Famous. Women are wearing western fashion to work now. We’ve come such a long way.”
Excellent point you made there. This fashion industry has come a long ways. For some of our readers who may be new to the western industry, what advice would you give to someone who wants to start dressing in western fashion?
Dava: “What’s stopping you? Start with a great pair of boots and a turquoise necklace. You’re on your way!”
That’s a great start ! By just adding a pair of boots and a turquoise necklace, real or fashion, you are one step closer to achieving the western style that fits you. This industry is so inclusive, there are no “clicks”, if there is, then you have the wrong idea of the western industry. Don’t let your fears of being judged hold you back, as Dava said, What’s stopping you?
I think Dava is right that western fashion is more popular than ever, and that it doesn’t have to be limited to “country girls.” Anyone can enjoy the beauty and comfort of western-inspired clothing. If you’re looking for a way to add a touch of western style to your wardrobe, I encourage you to check out Ranch & Famous boutique.
